Mise en Scene Task
“In our video we have tried to recreate a disrupted and
broken relationship to create a melancholy atmosphere. We have done this by
adapting the mise-en-scene and ensuring some subtle costume changes – such as
Zebie’s jacket – to signify small differences in the two characters, showing
little shifts in the relationship, which would cause disturbances. However, the
jacket in this instance was also used as a symbol of forgiveness and nurture.
We see the jacket first protecting a previously hurt Zebie, who then goes on to
give the jacket to Iqbal who also needs forgiveness and love. The shot is
reversed so we also see Zebie removing the jacket once more, this is ambiguous as
we question whether Iqbal will not let Zebie in or if she gives up trying. The
rose design on the jacket further highlights the theme of love and hurt. The rest of the costume design was a full
black outfit to show the gravity of the characters feelings for each
other. When Zebie is seen removing her
glasses it symbolises her vulnerability and her realisation that things should
change.
The setting and props were kept simplistic and minimal to
reflect the ‘stripped-down’ nature of the relationship. Our main use of the
black curtain as a backdrop shows that there are things that the characters
conceal from one another, they are closed off and feel lonely. When Zebie is in the cylinder/small space,
she is trapped and struggling to save herself. This is a reflection of her
inner battles as she tries to fix her relationship and also save herself. The
shaking light effects in this shot reflect her actual inner conflict; this is
portrayed in the contrast between light and dark. The shadow scene shows what
the characters idealise- how they want to be spiritually. Yet they cannot
physically come together and make the relationship work. Even when they are
together, their performances reveal that they do not feel connected, as they
want to be but that they are still apart.
The transitional one-take from black curtain to white wall shows the
effort Iqbal is also making. He walks away from his safe spot/hiding space to a
brighter white area where Zebie embraces him.
In the video we have tried to create a balance of light and
dark to reflect that even though there are bad sides to their love, they are
still hopeful. This is even shown in the
final shot when Iqbal is standing alone, as although he is dressed in full
black he is still surrounded by light, and hope.” – Dila, Zebie, Diana and
Iqbal
Our video have some very similar parts to Drake's song such as when Rihanna and Drake are holding each other which could symbolise love or caring for one another. Also their close ups in which we see their emotions.

Capitalism in videos.
This video shows capitalism through the words and old footage of capitalists videos. I might use some of the idea from this video to include it in my music video.

Cultural researches.
Capitalism is a social system
based on the principle of individual rights. Politically, it is the
system of laissez-faire (freedom). Legally it is a system of objective
laws (rule of law as opposed to rule of man).

" this article, the authors explore media coverage of a recent acquisition across national borders. Their starting point is that the media represent a key arena of “discursive strategizing” for actors such as corporate managers. They illustrate and specify how global capitalism, as discourse relying on economic and financial rationale and exemplified here by the acquiring firm’s attempts to expand, meets national spirit, exemplified here by the complexity in selling the acquisition target to foreigners. The main contribution of this study lies in identifying how key actors draw on and mobilize rationalistic and nationalistic discourses in public discussion. The analysis illustrates that the same actors can draw on different—even contradictory—discourses at different points in time. Furthermore, different actors—even with opposing objectives—may draw on the same discourse in legitimizing their positions and pursuing specific ends."
Socialism or theory in which the government owns and controls the means of production (as factories) and distribution of goods.
Democracy a system of government by the whole population or all the eligible members of a state, typically through elected representatives. A perfect example is the U.S., where we elect a president and members of the Congress. We also elect local and state officials.
In politics, hegemony is the geopolitical method of indirect imperial dominance, with which the hegemon (leader state) rules subordinate states, by the threat of intervention, an implied means of power, rather than by direct military force, that is, invasion, occupation, and annexation.
